Located in northwestern Arlington County, the Westover neighborhood is composed mostly of modest, pre-World War II single-family homes and garden-style apartment complexes. A commercial district, centered along North Washington Boulevard, contains a shopping center that includes a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and a newly-renovated Post Office that serves the community. Recent additions near the commercial district include an expanded neighborhood library and a multi-purpose public school facility with playgrounds, basketball courts, and ball fields.
Residential neighborhoods are located within walking distance of the shopping district and are characterized by rolling hills, mature trees and modest, yet elegant Colonial Revival-style single-family dwellings. Though built primarily in the 1940’s, the Westover community and its overall character remain predominately unchanged–though in many cases, the older homes have been renovated to accommodate modern needs and growing families.
Westover is an extremely pedestrian friendly neighborhood and can be easily reached via bus, bike, Metro, or on foot. The neighborhood is between Ballston Station and East Falls Church Stations, both part of the Washington DC Metro systems, and is serviced by Metro Buses as well as Arlington Transit (ART). It is also proximate to the Custis and W&OD biking and walking trails.
